Happy Birthday: Jerry Tarkanian

August 8, 1930 - Jerry Tarkanian also known as "Tark the Shark", is a retired college basketball coach known as one of the most successful coaches in college basketball history. One of the winningest college basketball coaches of all-time, Jerry Tarkanian won 706 games while coaching at Long Beach State, UNLV and Fresno State from 1968 to 2002. Tarkanian had the most success at UNLV, where four of his teams advanced to the Final Four, including the 1990 squad that won the national championship. While at UNLV, Tarkanian engaged in a long-standing legal battle with the NCAA over penalties the organization had imposed on the coach and his program. Tarkanian also coached the San Antonio Spurs of the NBA for 20 games in 1992.
