Happy Birthday: David Robinson

August 6, 1965 - David Maurice Robinson is a retired American NBA basketball player, who played center for the San Antonio Spurs for his entire NBA career. A 10-time NBA All-Star nicknamed ‘The Admiral’ because of his naval background, center David Robinson was the face of the San Antonio Spurs’ franchise while he played for them from 1990 to 2003. After a stellar career at the US Naval Academy, Robinson was selected by the Spurs with the first overall pick of the 1987 NBA Draft. After completing his naval service, Robinson was named Rookie of the Year in 1990. He won the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award in 1995 and was part of the Spurs’ teams that won NBA titles in 1999 and 2003. Robinson was named to the NBA’s 50th Anniversary All-Time Team and inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009. Robinson was also a member of the US men’s Olympic basketball team in 1988, 1992 and 1996, winning a bronze medal and two golds.
